Error occurred while loading COM component

Symptom: McAfee appears to update, but the dat file is reporting that it is still out of date. Also, when manually updating the following message comes up in the dialog box ‘Error occurred while loading COM componet:{451D30D1-C1EB-4891-BD3A-5FD7E3001784}.
Error occurred while getting point product callback component interface.’ This typically occurs after upgrading from 8.0i to 8.5i.

Solution: A plug in for a previous install of McAfee Virusscan 8.0i is still present on the computer and is causing problems to the updater. The method to fix this is to delete a specific registry key.
