Free antivirus solutions are available to all current URI faculty, staff and students. The University of Rhode Island uses McAfee for its Windows and Macintosh antivirus solution. It is important that no antivirus be installed before installing any other antivirus solution. Failure to remove previously installed antivirus solutions prior to installing McAfee antivirus may result in system instability. McAfee antivirus solutions can be obtained from the linked articles in the following sections, or from the Helpdesk Network Access CD, which can be borrowed from the Helpdesk in LL19 of the University Library (a one dollar deposit, which is refunded upon the return of the disc, is required). Please note that both the online and CD version come with installation and removal instructions.

The Information Technology Services at the University of Rhode Island has purchased a site license for McAfee antivirus solutions. The license permits the use of this software on all University-owned computers and on all computers owned by employees and students of the University. This software is currently available for Windows XP, 2000, 2003 Workstations and Servers, and Macintosh OS X 10.2 and higher. Once an employee or student leaves the University or terminates employment, the user is no longer entitled to McAfee product updates and support from the University. This license to use the anti-virus software is conditioned upon your compliance with the McAfee End User Agreement.
